Systemic Family Therapy seeks to identify stagnant patterns of behaviour within the family and address those patterns directly. This therapeutic intervention is delivered by Counsellors qualified in Systemic Family Therapy and involves the whole family.
During the 10 week programme, the practitioners focus on practically addressing current relationship patterns rather than analysing the causes of the issues. Common problems that practitioners work with include stressful and traumatic life events, such as divorce and separation, illness or death of a loved one and transitional stages of family development that can cause pain and upset. Work and school-related problems and parent-child conflict are also explored through family therapy.
Outcomes for this intervention are specific to the individual families. Common themes include:
- Setting goals and devising strategies
- Improved communication
- Agreement of solutions and ways to move forward
