A number of our staff are qualified, experienced counsellors and clinicians enabling us to offer effective programmes to support children and young people’s emotional development.
The following are available as part of our education provision or as standalone programmes:
Provides support for children and young people who have a need for more intensive involvement. Counsellors use a range of approaches, including person-centred counselling, in order to meet individual needs.
Counselling is currently available as a free service to young people in the local area.
The MARS anger management programme enables young people to:
- develop skills and strategies for dealing with anger
identify early warning signs
develop skills to reduce destructive and self-defeating behaviours
It focuses on the difference between anger and aggression, raising awareness of personal anger and stress relating to transitions.
The programme can be delivered either in a group or individually.
Play therapy is a long established, well-researched approach that enables a child to express their feelings and deal with their emotional problems, using play as the main communication tool. By playing with specially selected materials, and with the guidance of the therapist, the child plays out their feelings, bringing hidden emotions to the surface where they can be faced.
Through this therapy, children are given the opportunity to express themselves and develop emotional resilience.
Group work to promote emotional well-being
We can also offer group or whole class work on particular issues which may include friendship, self-esteem, concentration, confidence and bullying.
Dependent on individual circumstances, some of the services are free whilst others will incur a charge.
